Windows 11: Here's what you need to know about the upcoming updates
Windows 11 will get its first major update in February 2022, Microsoft has confirmed.
The new version of Windows 11 will deliver a series of new features:
taskbar improvements with call mute and unmute, easier window sharing and integration of weather to the taskbar
two new redesigned apps, Notepad and Media Player
a public preview of Android apps on Windows 11 through the Microsoft Store, so far exclusive to the Windows Insider Program
Microsoft also indicated that it is opening up the Microsoft Store for Windows to third-party storefront apps, including the Epic Games Store and the Amazon Appstore. Epic and Amazon's stores will be discoverable on the Microsoft Store for Windows and will be able to be downloaded like any other app.
Alongside the announcement of upcoming updates, Chief Product Officer Panos Panay revealed that, since its launch in October, people have been adopting Windows 11 at twice the rate for Windows 10 with Windows 11 driving increased engagement. People are spending on average 40% more time on their Windows 11 PC than on Windows 10, tripling the traffic to the newly redesigned Microsoft Store, he stated.
"Windows 11 also has the highest quality scores and product satisfaction of any version of Windows we’ve ever shipped" revealed Panos Panay, although further stats were not provided.
